The World Bank has reassured of its commitment to support governments at all levels in Nigeria to deliver on their mandate of providing good governance and services to the people.
Country Director of the World Bank – Mister Shubham Chaudhuri disclosed this in Abuja at the induction for elected governors on Wednesday.
Mister Chaudhuri explained that the Bank is looking forward to more bilateral engagements and programmes that could be supported in various states,.
He pledged the Bank’s commitment to help Nigerian government, both the Federal and sub national level in order to deliver good governance to all your citizens, not just for financing, but hopefully to provide support in any way to meet its challenges.
The Country representative said that Nigeria had no reason not to be on positive trajectory in terms of Gross Domestic Products (GDP) and Per Capita Income like Indonesia who shared certain similarities with the country including oil production, population and democracy.
While acknowledging the Bank’s support in giving grants, assistance, States Fiscal Transparency, Accountability, and Sustainability (SFTAS) and loans,- Bauchi State Governor – Governor Bala Mohammed affirmed that there is the need for the Nation to correct its perception about debt and for states to look inward for resources.
